Our Pup (by Teresa)

Our Pup

I don't remember how old I was at the time. I do remember when our dog, Dutchess had a litter of six pups. One of these pups looked exactly like her. We were giving the puppies away to good homes. We kept the one that looked like its mom, and kept her hidden when people started arriving to look at the pups.

After all the puppies were gone, we knew that we would have to pick a name for the one that was left. Thinking for awhile, we came up with the name Cupcake. "No, I don't think that would be a very good idea", my dad replies. If the pup got out of the house, and we started calling "Here Cupcake," the neighbors would look at us like we had lost our minds. Finally, we came up with the name "Bootsie". It was still as silly as the first name, but it fit her because it looked as if she was wearing boots!

Another Dog "Tale"

It had been a while to convince everyone in the family that it would be good to let the kids have a pet. When it got closer to David's fourth birthday, I asked him what he would like as a present, and he respond: "A dog".

On January of 1994, we went to the Humane Society to pick out a pup. We fell in love with a black and white part cocker spaniel and basset hound. Some people would call that a Heinz 57.

During the drive home, everyone was trying to think of a name for the puppy. Lindsay was the first to speak. " I like the name Baron", she says. "Yes, I like the name Baron, too." We thought about it for a few seconds. Liking it, we decided that it was a good name. David is sitting in the back seat of the car with his sisters, listening. In a quiet voice, he saaid, "I thought that I got to name the dog".

Megan, not listening sayid she liked the name, Von. We thought about that this time, and we all agreed that Von was also a good name. "Baron Von Carpenter it is" I said. Talking some more, David says, "I thaught that I got to name the dog" We had not really been listening to him. Finally, not being able to stand it, he shouts out as loud as a three year old can yell, "I THOUGHT THAT I GOT TO NAME THE DOG!!"

Looking back at him, I said: "You are right David. We did say that you could name the dog. What name would you like to call him?" In his tiny little voice, he replies: "Spot". That is how our dog got the name of Baron Von Spot.
