Flying Kites (by Sharon)

Now that Spring is here. I can remember one thing I really enjoyed when I was a child. It was flying kites.

I made my kites out of newspaper and balsom wood. There were times my dad brought home plain white butcher meat paper. It's strong paper too. I would draw pictures, color them and sometimes finger paint on the paper. Then of course you must have tails on your kite. The more you have the higher the kite would go.I would cut up old white cotton T shirts. They seem to work the best for me.

I would fly the kite at the park or the school playground. Of course I sure had the wind with me in Northern Indiana.

I was most of the time the only girl. Then a few times to have some fun with the others flying kites. You would see the kite going higher and higher and someone would cut your string or there wasn't anymore string left on your roll.

As the years went by plastic kites came around to fly. I flew them too. I had the most fun with my home made kites very original.
