A new PC

I bought a new computer early this month. It's my first Windows machine. I have been a Macintosh user for about 5 years and have hardly known about Windows. I know some persons who use the PC and access to the internet, but they are all Window users. I don't know any Macintosh users around me.

I have been satisfied with Mac, so I didn't want to buy Windows machine at all until recently. No, no, it's not the exact expression perhaps. I often thought of buying a Windows machine some times before, but I didn't necessarily hope so sincerely. I was only curious about the machine, and I only sometimes envied that Windows has far more softwares than Mac. I wanted to use some softwares which aren't convenient in Mac. But that's all and I want to make my PC surroundings as simple as I could. So I haven't cared much about Windows machine till early this month.

I have wanted a new PC which enable me to access to the Internet at home. I used to access to the Internet only at my office. I had an old Mac at home, and it has also an old modem. However its memory is 32MB, and its HD has only 540MB. I used it when I was into PC communication a few years agp. But I have hardly used it for the purpose of enjoying the Internet. I only used it when I had to write some essays and e-mails at home. Recently I have been thinking it may be better for me to use the Internet to the fullest, so I had another line connected to use Internet at home .

I had been thinking of buying a popular iMac machine till early this month. So I often checked some magazines where to buy one. We don't have any PC shops on this island, so I have always bought my PCs by catalog shopping before. And one day, perhaps on June 3, I saw an ad for new PC. They were all Windows machine, and the price was very low. I know PCs are a little more expensive in Japan than in the US and Korea, but the machine to be sold is quite cheap, I thought. I decided to buy one of them.

The ad was SOTEC's. And the one I bought was Micro SSTATION PC 400. It has 64MB memories, but I added 128 MB to it. So it has 192 MB memories now. It also has a fast modem and CD. Though it didn't include any softwares except its OS, Windows 98, it was OK for me. I wantef to use it as only the Internet machine. I can do my works on Mac as before, so I don't need extra softwares. I thought so before I got the new machine. But perhaps I had better buy some important softwares.

Although I had many troubles with this machine, I am enjoying useing it now. I can send and receive my e-mails through my new PC. I don't enjoy the Intenet yet as freely as I can. It's because the phone price isn't fixed one yet. But perhaps I can do netsurfing, improving my web pages, chatting and internet phoning. I'm looking forward to them very much. Perhaps I can write many English essays at home from now on.
